How long have you been riding?
This is my 6th season snowboarding, I started when I was younger then
I wasn’t allowed to ride because it was “too dangerous” after
I broke my nose. I got to start riding again when I got my license and
I could sneak up to the mountain.
You are very aggressive rider as well as stylistic, what frame of mind
do you have when riding?
I don’t know, I just go out there and ride and have fun with my
friends and try to learn new things.
Your season had a very good start...what are some of
your recent contests highlights?
I placed 1st in the Elevation Rail Jam at Bear Mountain a few weeks ago.
I also placed 1st overall in The Women’s Jams USASA Boarder cross,
San Gabriel division. Now I get to go on to Nationals.
How do you spend
your time when you are not riding?
Hanging out with my friends at Denny’s. or going online and chatting
it up about riding. I also like working on my website.
What’s up with women’s
riding right now?
Women are starting to step up the competition. And a lot of younger kids
are getting out there.
How did you get into snowboarding?
I live in Wrightwood... one winter day, after it had snowed I was walking
in my back yard and I stepped on a long piece of fiberglass and started
sliding on the snow. There was a fallen tree in my way so I ollie’d
onto it and did my first 50/50... it was so fun that I had to try it
again... after that I was hooked!
At Mountain High you are one of the few
girls that hit the rails/jumps regularly – what’s it like
to ride better than most guys?
I don’t try and think I ride better than anyone, I just try and
push myself to get better. I get a lot of compliments though... but I
like it...’cause I’m an A-DUB.
Who or what is your earliest
influence?
Mostly just other people I saw riding at Mt High that rode better than
me, when I was learning. I remember Shawn White rode for Burton and
I rode a Burton Chopper and that kid had some awesome pictures in the
Burton Catalog, plus he was a couple years younger then me. I looked
up to him.
Goals for this year?
I’d really like to keep my title this year at The Queen of The
Mountain Competition. Also, right now some tricks I want to get down
are 5’s, spinning cab, and spinning 270 onto boxes and rails.
What
was the gnarliest thing you have ever done or attempted?
Probably last season at Brianhead, Utah when I hit this huge table, trying
to show off for a hot guy and ended up breaking my back.
What trick do you
give the most play?
Probably my 3’s just because they feel so comfortable and a lot
of people are impressed because they never see girls spinning.
Who or what
pushed your riding to the next level?
My Best Friend Dawnalea because she was the best girl on the mountain
at the time and I wanted to be as good as her.
Shout outs?
I want to say
thank you to my sponsors who help me do what I love. Dawnalea – I
love you. And my Family – for the support.
Christa – you are my favorite person to ride with, thank you for
helping me with so much, I love you kid-o keep it up. AW crew – Thanks
for making my life so entertaining! My pro hoe’s – you know
who you are THANK YOU!
If you could enlighten people who have never boarded, what would you
say?
Snowboarding is a great sport, it’s a great rush and I think everyone
should experience it!
